FAQ
Something missing? Ask us.
- What does Bookplate cost?
- Nothing. Create an account and every feature is yours.
- Where is my data kept?
- On servers in Paris, France, with Scaleway, a European provider.
- Can I bring my library over from Goodreads or StoryGraph?
- Yes. Export your library there as a CSV file, then choose Settings → Import in Bookplate. Your books come across with their ratings, reading dates and reviews, and covers are found for you.
- Can I take my data with me?
- Any time. Settings → Export downloads everything as one zip: your books as readable JSON, a Markdown file of notes per book, and all your covers and pictures. It imports straight into any other Bookplate.
- Can other people see my books?
- No. Your library, notes and words are private to your account. There are no public profiles, followers or feeds.
- Is there a phone app?
- Bookplate works in your phone’s browser, with tabs along the bottom. Add it to your home screen from the browser’s share menu and it opens like an app.
- Does Bookplate show ads or track me?
- No ads and no trackers. The only cookie keeps you signed in.
- Can I run Bookplate on my own server?
- Yes. Bookplate is open source (Apache 2.0), and the documentation walks through installing it with Docker. You can move your library between the two with Export and Import.
- How do I delete my account?
- In Settings → Danger zone. Your account and everything in it are removed straight away.
